If insufficient memory is available to launch the CorelDRAW application, a message will appear advising you to enable Virtual Memory. It is recommended that Virtual Memory be enabled when running CorelDRAW or any of the Corel applications.
File I/O
When saving CorelDRAW files back to earlier versions, to be opened in a Windows® version of CorelDRAW, a .cdr extension should be added manually to the filename. This will allow the Windows® version of CorelDRAW to easily recognize the file.
To open CorelDRAW files in Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Corel Presentation Exchange data must be saved in the file. Please enable the 'Save Corel Presentation Exchange' checkbox when saving CorelDRAW files to be opened in Corel PHOTO-PAINT.
Get Info
The virtual memory information contained in the Get Info dialog for CorelDRAW is inaccurate due to the fact that much of the application is contained in Shared Libraries.
Extensions
Several Macintosh extensions are required to access features in CorelDRAW 8:
• Apple Guide™ extension is required to use the CorelDRAW 8 Tutorial.
• AppleScript™ extension and library are required to create and run scripts in CorelDRAW 8.
• Kodak® CMS extensions are required for the Color Management system and is installed by Corel's Installer.
• ColorSync™ extension is required to access the ColorSync™ profiles used by CorelDRAW 8.
Application Specific
Find and Replace (*.fin) files from Microsoft™ Windows® versions of CorelDRAW cannot be used with CorelDRAW 8 for Power Macintosh®.
Effects
Drop Shadow effects are memory intensive. Reducing the default document resolution (in File menu, Document Setup), will help to lower the memory requirements of creating drop shadows on larger objects. Note that reducing the resolution may affect the print quality.
Drop Shadow effects will not apply properly to text that already has a Distortion effect applied to it. The Drop Shadow effect will take the shape of the non-distorted text.
Customization
It is not possible, when customizing toolbars, to drag a toolbar item to the desktop/Finder to create toolbars. Toolbars must be created in the application workspace.
Toolbar items cannot be removed from docked toolbars. To remove toolbar buttons, undock the toolbar before accessing the Preferences dialog.
General
Context menu extensions are not supported within CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT.
Text, Fonts and Styles
CorelDRAW does not support dynamic font updating within the Panose Font Matching dialog. This means that installing missing fonts with the Panose Font Matching dialog open will not allow the fonts to be substituted. The dialog must be cancelled, then re-open the file.
When opening CorelDRAW 6 Macintosh files containing Type 1 fonts, the text may appear wider.
WorldScript™
When more than one WorldScript™ language is installed, CorelDRAW will prompt for which
language to use for that session on application launch. As a result, creating and opening files using WorldScript™ languages other than the language specified on launch is not supported.
When opening CorelDRAW files containing Asian fonts that are not presently installed, a non-Asian font will be substituted by default. The default font for substitution can be changed in Edit, Preferences, Workspace, Text, Fonts, Panose Font Matching.
When opening CorelDRAW Windows files created with Asian filenames, the file will not be recognized. Presently, there is no Asian file name compatibility between Windows and Macintosh platforms.
CorelDRAW has been tested with the following WorldScript languages: Japanese, Korean and Chinese Traditional.
Bitmaps
Plug-ins cannot preview Duotone images. Instead, the duotone images will be previewed as grayscale.
The use of Plug-ins, Resample, and Convert to Bitmap are memory intensive. When you are using any of these functions, ensure that you have enough free virtual memory to complete the operation.
Any Bitmap Color Mask applied to a bitmap will not be visible in window previews of any bitmap effects' dialog.
To use the color option for Vignette effect or the background color for Page Curl effect, the bitmap must not have a transparent background.
PHOTO-PAINT objects, upon import into DRAW, appear to have a white opaque background. This background is actually an all-white bitmap behind the object. If the imported bitmap is ungrouped, the background can be deleted, and the foreground object will behave as a bitmap with mask applied.
Plug-ins are not applicable to bitmaps with color mask.
CorelDRAW 8 Web Related Features
If a workspace other than the default one is set as current, the Internet Toolbar may always display on top of other dialogs that are invoked.
Form objects that reside on top of bitmaps in the CorelDraw source file will not be transfered through publishing to HTML as form objects, but will be translated through the export as a bitmap.
Scripts
The Graph Paper Tool cannot be used in AppleScript™ recordings.
Object Editing, Drag and Drop
CorelDRAW will paste in objects from other applications in different formats depending on the object and application of origin: bitmaps, artistic text, paragraph text. The pasted objects can be edited in CorelDRAW. Limitations depend on the type of object selected. Other applications determine how pasted or dropped CorelDRAW objects are handled.
Text from other applications will paste into CorelDRAW as artistic text. To paste text as paragraph text, first create a paragraph text frame, then choose Paste.
